Daniela Goicea, MD
Daniela Goicea is an ophthalmologist based in Bucharest, Romania. With extensive experience in orthokeratology and myopia management, she has successfully treated over 10,000 patients, including more than 1,000 children fitted with orthokeratological and soft multifocal lenses. Her work in organizing national “Myopia Day” congresses has made a significant impact in advancing myopia control practices in Romania.
Case report:
The presentation attempts to sketch the diversity of managing myopia with Miyosmart according to patient’s needs and medical condition, from pre-myopia to high progression cases, and from single to combined treatment. It contains 5 cases from the real world focusing on the importance of compliance, and on the decision if and when to start treatment, as well as choosing combined treatment. Take-home messages are that practitioners should be prepared to thoroughly analyze and tackle each specific case, and that a close follow-up allows for shifting the treatment for obtaining best results.
Max Aricochi, M.Sc. Vision Science and Business (Optometry)
Max Aricochi is an optometrist based in Innsbruck, Austria, with a focus on myopia management, particularly in children. His Master’s thesis resulted in the creation of the first logbook on myopia management in the German language. Max is actively involved in the KeVenbrücke Eye Centre, where he manages optometric care, contact lens clinics, and myopia management services. He is known for his innovative approach to complex patient needs and his commitment to improving clinical practices in myopia care.
Case Report: Application of Dims-technology in high-risk convergent insufficient Asian girl
A 6.5-year-old Japanese girl with mild axial myopia and convergence insufficiency presented with blurred distance vision and intermittent diplopia. The significant risk factors for myopia progression included the parent’s Japanese ethnicity, the presence of high myopia in both parents, and unstable binocular vision. The initial assessment revealed moderate exophoria and low fusional reserves. The paGent was treated with DIMS glasses and a 12-week vision therapy program. Over two years, her myopia remained stable, and the binocular vision symptoms resolved. This case highlights the importance of considering genetic, ethnic, and binocular vision factors when developing effective myopia management strategies for high-risk children.
